Greetings Mar. 2000 #5
We’ve finally unwrapped our "present". My long awaited new addition has arrived. I haven't decided on
a name yet, but that will be easier after I get to know her and see how she acts. William still likes the name
Samuel. I'm not sure how to explain to him that a feminine name is more appropriate. She's a beaut. She has a kind
of reddish coloring. I would have preferred a lighter color - maybe even a white one, but I guess you've got to
take what you get. I really wanted to trade in one of the others, but no one wanted them. Boy is she big -- and
noisy, but that's normal. There's plenty of room for growth. Our house is so small I was afraid I was gong to have
to leave her outside a lot, but everything's going to work out OK if a little cramped. The big advantage is that
I hope that, in spite of the large size, she will consume a lot less.
But enough rambling about my "new" (’72) truck and on to the important stuff -- the new baby!! Little
Greyson Samuel landed in Fortaleza, Brazil on a 7:47 (A.M.) Monday February 21, 2000. His baggage weighed in at
4.160 kg or 9 lbs 2 1/2 oz and measured 54 cm which is 21.25984251969 inches (approximately). Mother and son are
well. We had excellent assistance during and immediately after the birth from friends with another mission, but
the long term nurse leaves a bit to be desired. (I try! Honest!). We are also thankful for a family with our mission
that kept the other 2 for a day and a half while we were in the hospital. Unfortunately the baby didn’t come with
a name tag, so we had a hard time deciding what to call him. My suggestions of "Rex" and "Spot"
did not meet with a favorable reception. I thought mine were better than what the boys had in mind. I even tried
asking "him" for some input, but I couldn’t figure out how to spell it. Must have been one of those foreign
names.
In other news, we now have a phone and e-mail. Our address @yahoo will always continue, but we may also be reached
at bwaii@baydenet.com.br for now. Our phone number is 55 85 290-1587. It was Michele’s Christmas present. We are
able to talk to our folks for "free" by Internet and even showed them video of the boys opening presents
just hours after it happened. It cost more to purchase an existing number from an individual, but the one from
the phone company still hasn’t come through. I lost some addresses in the transition, so if you didn’t get word
about the birth via e-mail and would like to be on our list, send your address to me.
We are about half way through baptism class at the church. I decided to do the class with the whole church during
the regular Friday night bible study. It has been a good "reminder" for the "regulars" with
a number of good questions. The chorale is sounding less like a corral though most efforts at theory don't seem
to get very far.
We still haven’t been able to "close" on the property beside the church - meanwhile the fall of the dollar
here has caused the price to go up $1300. The room would be very nice for Sunday School classes as the rainy season
sometimes dampens more than just spirits with our current arrangement.

P.S. This letter was written Feb. 23, 2000 but got "lost" and was not sent to the printers. I still haven’t
gotten a confirmed permanant address but our temporary website is http://www.webcannon.com/demo/bwaii@baydenet.com.br
